PASSAIC, January 16, 2017 - Local Passaic Artist, Bonnie Goetz will be discussing the artworks in her newest exhibition on Thursday, January 19th from 7-8pm. Viewpoints: Landscapes of Passaic Park is on view through January 30, 2017 at the Clifton Memorial Library. Learn about her personal motivation for creating the works, the “language of natural forms” that she observes and translates for the viewer, and the messages behind selected works. The audience is invited to contribute their perspective and ask the artist questions.
Bonnie Goetz, originally from Rockland County, NY, lives and paints in her home studio in Passaic Park. She has been painting mostly in oils for 30 years and earned her BFA in Painting from SUNY Purchase College and her MFA in Studio Art Teaching from Boston University. Her fascination with home and place is fueled by her ongoing fascination with the expressiveness of the natural environment. She aims to capture a unique perspective to engage the viewer in a moment of contemplation and internal reflection.
This solo exhibit display’s Passaic Park’s many seasons and subtle moods. “I hope that the works will invite local audiences to see Passaic and its environs in a whole new light.,” the artist Bonnie Goetz states, “My paintings insist that Passaic holds pockets of nature that can potentially inspire one to slow down and admire its artistry.” Bonnie takes walks regularly studying the Passaic landscape in different seasons and times of day, photographing, and creating albums she uses as inspiration for her final paintings. When asked about what captures her attention, Bonnie says, “The emotional quality of the movement in the landscape expressed through gesture, color, and light.”
